The archaeological works in the Roman Villa of Los Cantos can be visited in an open day (11/08/2017)

This morning the Mayor of Bullas, Maria Dolores Muñoz, accompanied by some of her colleagues in the Government Team, visited the Roman Site of Los Cantos where since August 6 students from different points in the Spanish and international geography participate in An Archaeological Excavation Campaign that, for the first time, is carried out in the locality in the framework of an International Course of Archeology, promoted by the Bullas Town Hall and the University of Murcia.

Guided by the Director of the Museum of Wine, Salvador Martínez, the first Edil and the councilors have toured the different rooms of this villa that worked as a residence and which had a thermal complex, an industrial area and a garden area in which in its Day were found several sculptures that worked like water spouts;

Including the Boy of the Grapes and three others who have recently been recovered by agents of the Civil Guard, within the operations of the Plan for the Defense of Spanish Historical Heritage.

In this sense the Mayor has stated that she hopes that "we can soon enjoy these sculptures in the Bullas Wine Museum".

Currently, the site is in an early stage of research.

Of particular relevance for Bullas are the findings linked to wine production, with remains found of a possible winery, in addition to the aforementioned finding of the well-known Child of the Grapes.

"With these excavations, which we promoted through the Museum of Wine and the Center for Studies of the Near East and Late Antiquity of the University of Murcia, which also have the sponsorship of the Bullas Wine Route Association and the Cajarmurcia Foundation , We seek to put in value and highlight an area of ​​vital importance for the municipality that helps us to understand our past and history, "highlighted María Dolores Muñoz, who thanked the students for their effort and dedication that until next August 20 will continue With their integral training in fundamental aspects such as excavation techniques, stratigraphy, photogrammetry, topography, field drawing, inventory of materials, etc.

In addition, Muñoz used the occasion to invite all the neighbors to the open days to be held on Tuesday, August 15, with guided tours of the Roman Villa in full process of excavation.

There will be two shifts, the first at 10 o'clock in the morning and the second at 12 o'clock in the afternoon.
