Ecovidrio launches campaign in Bullas (15/12/2017)

A public awareness campaign with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of recycling glass containers and making these Christmas more sustainable

In addition, a solidary challenge is launched to the citizens of the participating municipalities, Bullas, Cieza and Yecla.

Once over, we will donate lots of school material to Save the Children to promote education in its project against child poverty in Spain

Bullas, on December 15, 2017- Ecovidrio, the non-profit entity in charge of managing the recycling of glass packaging waste in Spain, in collaboration with the City of Bullas, launches the campaign during the Christmas festivities of awareness "Be supportive, make the best gift", to promote the recycling of glass among all citizens.

The initiative, which will take place between December 22 and January 6, invites all citizens and visitors to the city to recycle glass packaging waste during these days, since they are dates with a significant increase in generation of waste and especially of high consumption of products packed in glass.

For the development of the campaign, Ecovidrio will place two containers decorated with the image of the campaign in the Plaza de España, where citizens will have to recycle as many glass containers as possible to overcome the proposed challenge.

The challenge is to overcome among the 3 participating municipalities, Bullas, Cieza and Yecla, 8 tons of recycled glass containers in these containers.

If the challenge is overcome, Ecovidrio will donate lots of school material to Save the Children to promote education through its project against child poverty in Spain.

Accompanying these containers, an informant will carry out an awareness campaign among passers-by, explaining the challenge and showing the environmental benefits that the recycling of glass containers has for the environment.

In addition, it will distribute to all the citizens who come to know the campaign and the solidary challenge some Christmas decorations for the Christmas tree, leaving this message perpetuated in many homes during the Christmas holidays.

Glass recycling data in Bullas

According to the latest data available for 2016, the citizens of Bullas recycled a total of 378,950 kilograms of glass containers.

This means that each bullfighting recycled an average of 32.3 kilograms of glass.

Regarding the rate of containerization, Bullas is located with an average of 126 inhabitants per container, currently having a total of 93 igloos for glass packaging waste installed in the municipality.

Environmental benefits of glass recycling

The glass that is deposited in the containers is 100% recycled and used for the manufacture of new containers, indefinitely and without losing the original properties.

Recycling glass prevents the growth of landfills.

Recycling glass is a key element in the fight against climate change.

By using recycled glass calcín in the manufacture of new containers avoids the extraction of raw materials from nature, avoiding the erosion of soils and deforestation of our environment.

In addition, the emission of CO2 is minimized in the manufacturing process and energy is saved.
