Two cheeses from the region of Murcia, Murcia Curado cheese Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and the semi-cured cheese of Murcia al Vino cheese DOP Palancares developed by Bullas, were awarded a silver medal and one bronze, respectively in the international competition World Cheese Awards 2009 held in Las Palmas de Canaria.
The company Quesera Central Jumilla Montesinos for his part, the format of cheese is not protected by the Denomination of Origin, won an important recognition of the quality of their 'locks of goat' with pepper, paprika and herbs, with three gold medals.
Competed in all the areas a total of 2,440 cheeses from 34 countries were evaluated for 150 tasters from around the world.
The PDO cheese from Murcia involved with one of their technicians as part of the tasting panel, invited by the organizer of the event, the Cabildo de Gran Canaria.
The director general of Livestock and Fisheries, Adolfo Falagas, explained that this recognition demonstrates "the important work of farmers in the region to ensure complete security and offer great quality milk production."
He also stressed that the cheese products made by the Autonomous Community of Murcia are recognized around the world.
In this regard, he added that "cheese from the Murcia region are the most exported from Spain."
After a day of tasting, held an exhibition of cheese which was attended by the PDO Regulatory Council of Murcia cheese with a booth, staffed by technical personnel who provided information and samples to the large international audience moved to Canary for the celebration of these awards.
