The Minister of Tourism, Youth and Sports, Cristina Sánchez, today attended the blind tasting of the 'XIII Sample of Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) of Bullas', which was held at the facilities of the Center for Tourism Qualification (CCT ).
During the tasting, fifteen tasting specialists representing different fields related to viticulture searched among the 33 wines participating in the PDO Bullas the best in the different categories.
The exhibition, which this year has moved its activities to the city of Murcia on the occasion of the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2020, served to publicize and promote the wines covered under this distinctive quality by the wineries themselves.
Cristina Sánchez highlighted the unique character of these wines, which differ from the rest of the wine areas, thanks to the climate and the higher ground where the grapes are grown.
The geographical area of ​​PDO Bullas includes the municipal terms of Bullas, Cehegín, Mula and Ricote, and in part, the municipalities of Calasparra, Caravaca de la Cruz, Lorca, Moratalla and Pliego, with an inscribed surface area of ​​1,300 hectares of vineyards, a production of 17,000 hectoliters of wine and a census of 13 wineries and 270 winemakers.
"Gastronomy, as a vehicle for attracting tourists, is one of the great objectives of the regional government for this year, as well as the promotion of wine tourism. They are two of the main claims within the tourist offer to enrich the experience of visitors and offer a quality experience throughout the year, breaking the seasonality and generating more stable employment in the sector, "said Cristina Sánchez.
