They were among the many, soldiers and civilians, who were exiled to France, where they were held in internment camps in the south, in miserable conditions and, after the occupation of Paris by Nazi troops, about 9,000 Spaniards, including citizens of the Northwest Region were, were detained in death camps, mainly in the Mauthausen.

"Then, the Spanish Republicans defended with their lives for democracy and freedom, therefore remember is the best way to keep fighting for his memory," said the City Council, referring to the Law of Historical Memory, which aims to recognize and expand rights for those who suffered persecution or violence for political, ideological or religious belief reasons, during the Civil War and the Dictatorship, promoting their moral reparation and the recovery of their personal and family memory.
