The Civil Guard dismantled a clandestine shelter dog and its owner arrested for animal abuse (28/02/2012)

In two pits dug in the floor of premises were found several corpses of dogs, some of them were being eaten by other dogs

The detainee is charged with an offense relating to the protection of pets

The Guardia Civil in the Region of Murcia, in collaboration with staff from the Animal Health Service of the Directorate General of Livestock of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, has been dismantled, in the operation called "Rehala" illegal shelter dogs in the municipality of Bullas (Murcia).

On site, an area surrounded by a little over 1,000 square meters located in a rural area, were housed about 120 dogs of different ages and races, mostly for the varieties that are often used for the exercise of hunting : greyhounds, hounds, beagles, Brittany ... Some of the animals were crammed in small enclosed spaces that exist inside the hostel.

Upon inspection of the worthy, two pits dug in the field served as a reservoir to the bodies of animals that were dying, nothing unusual circumstance considering the thinness that most of them had.

In fact, the agents arrived on the scene, the dogs had no access to water and the only food which were available chips.

Some of the bodies had not yet been thrown into any of the graves and were being eaten by other dogs inside the hostel.

The facilities, which lacked the required business license and declaration as the core zoo, nor possessed of a veterinary service to monitor their health status, were very poor, so much so that some of the animals did not have a shelter where shelter from inclement weather.

The dogs, who had a skeletal appearance and in some cases had open wounds, mostly lacked the relevant health files dog and had not been vaccinated against rabies.

At the time of the inspection, the Civil Guard found the deaths of at least 7 dogs on the premises.

The proceedings have been brought before the Magistrate's Court acting for the Guard in the judicial district of Caravaca de la Cruz, as well as the Prosecutor for the Environment and Urban Planning of the Autonomous Community of Murcia.

The existing Criminal Code punishable by up to one year imprisonment and disqualification to 3 years for the exercise of profession, trade or business that is related to animals, to those who, by any means or procedure unjustifiably mistreat a pet or tamed, causing death or injury which severely damage physical condition.
