Lorenzo Bullas highlights the "importance" of day centers for older people to remain in their home environment (07/05/2014)

The regional government is expected to become operational this year a total of 37 new places in day centers and 225 in nursing homes

The Minister of Health and Social Policy, Catherine Lawrence, said during his visit to the Day Centre Bullas the "importance" of these resources within the network of care for dependent older people in the region to enable them to remain in contact with their environment, integration, participation, solidarity and relationship with the social environment is conducive.

Lorenzo, in the meeting held with professionals and users of the Day Centre Bullas was accompanied by Managing Director of Murcia Institute of Social Action (IMAS), Leopoldo Navarro, as well as the mayor of the town, Pedro Chico.

The Day Centre Bullas, municipally owned, was opened in September 2012 and has 30 accredited places.

Of these, 22 are arranged by the IMAS by a higher amount to 300,000 euros after passing the Governing Council on 28 March, increasing the number of seats from 18 to 22.

The Minister said: "With this increase the number of places is intended to respond to demand, promoting the reconciliation of work and family life and further strengthen the regional network of resources for elderly dependents without breaking its link with the family environment. "

Also, Lorenzo said the "efforts" being made from the regional government to promote active aging, to strengthen intergenerational ties and provide comprehensive care for the elderly, since "they are an essential part of society to understand our past , present and future. "

The number of places in day center scheme is in Bullas have to add 135 users served through the IMAS Telecare Service, managed by Televida, and 31 who are receiving financial benefit linked to the Domiciliary Support Services in this location.

Red and expansion of regional resources

Currently, DG Older Murciano Social Action Institute, under the Ministry of Health and Social Policy, plans that throughout this year put into operation throughout the region a total of 37 new positions in Day Care Centers and 225 nursing homes.

These 37 new jobs, 18 of which are already operating, will involve a total of 999 places in day centers and the increase of seats 225 residences, of which 72 are already operational, means having seats 2,551 in residential care in the Community.

Responsible for Health and Social Policy, Catherine Lawrence, recalled that in addition to the day centers and residences, IMAS has Telecare Service which last year benefited 4,000 Murcia, and home help service to be provided about 350 users.

Lorenzo stressed the need to continue providing the regional network of more resources in terms of the care needs, and concluded that "about 8,500 for dependent Murcia receive a monthly service from DG Older IMAS".
