The Full Council of Bullas, in regular meeting held on July 30 approved the membership application of the municipality to the European initiative "Mayors Adapt" ("Mayors for Adaptation"), request that was confirmed this morning by the responsible office in Brussels.
Last March, the European Commissioner for Climate Action, Connie Hedegaar officially opened the "Mayors for Adaptation" or Covenant of Mayors' Initiative for Climate Change Adaptation "initiative which is the first pan-European initiative supporting Municipal measures for adaptation to climate change.
The "Mayors for Adaptation" initiative recognizes and supports the critical role of local authorities with regard to adaptation to climate change, by providing a dynamic platform for exchange with a European vision.
With this membership, Bullas is the first municipality in our region that joins this initiative "Mayors for Adaptation".
Depending on the great work already developed within the project LIFE ACT (Adaptation to Climate Change in Time), it resulted in a Plan of Local Climate Change Adaptation and approval of the Plan of Action for Sustainable Energy in the municipality of Bullas (PAES).
Thus, on July 1, 2014 Letter of Intent of the City of Bullas for joining this initiative last Wednesday presented its final accession was formalized.
The ultimate goal of it is to contribute to the adaptation strategy of the EU and create a more resilient to climate change in Europe.
Learning from other experiences and challenges in tackling climate change, identification of solutions and show their work to other European partners in a common forum.
These are just some of the opportunities that "Mayors for Adaptation" offers institutions adhere to this platform.
In addition the European Commission has developed and adapted specific funds and financial programs to assist local authorities in meeting their commitments and develop measures in the field of the fight against climate change to which Bullas hopes to access in the future.
