Nearly eight million to upgrade the wastewater treatment plant of Bullas (26/09/2014)

The Governing Council approved the hiring and spending modernization works the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) of Bullas, which has a budget of 7,948,784 euros, financed 80 percent by the Cohesion Fund the European Union, which will be implemented in 2014 and 2015 annuities.

Following the expansion and modernization works of the treatment plant will have a powerful tertiary treatment system that will ensure optimum water quality for irrigation.

Until now, the treatment plant had a natural system of tertiary treatment by insolation led to the proliferation of algae clogged drip irrigation pipes.

The treatment plant will have the capacity to purify 6,500 cubic meters of wastewater per day, which is meeting the needs of a population equivalent de62.000 inhabitants, based on the estimation of the projected population growth in the area.

This work is included in the General Plan of cleansing and purifying of the Region of Murcia, which began in 2001 and involved the planning and coordination of actions in sanitation and treatment throughout the region, with the construction of infrastructure 45 municipalities.

This has been achieved that the reused water have a higher than required by EU regulations quality.

The Region regenerates over 100 cubic are of water a year, which are used in agriculture as a whole, somewhat alleviating the water shortage.

This makes it a model community for water purification and irrigation modernization.
