The Denomination of Origin Bullas selected in blind tasting the best wines from the last harvest (25/02/2015)

The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, today introduced along with the mayor of Bullas, Peter Boy, and the president of the Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Origin Bullas, Francisco Carreño, VIII Bullas Wine Show to be held the 2nd and March 3rd.

10 registered wineries in the DO Bullas participate in the Quality Contest with new wines made in the last campaign, which will be evaluated in blind tasting.

Cerda said that the wine sector "is changing" and stressed that the designation "has adapted perfectly to the market" with the cultivation ten different grape varieties, together with the indigenous Monastrell grape.

The Minister said the Designation of Origin Bullas "is very unique for being the youngest of the producing areas and the wider", covering nine municipalities in the region and an area of ​​2,400 hectares.

DO Bullas marketed in 2014 more than 800,000 liters of wine, mainly in the domestic market and also abroad, led to the United States, the Netherlands, Canada, Germany, United Kingdom, China and Japan, among others.

Weather conditions for the last year have improved the quality of the grapes, although it has halved production, according to the president of the Control Board.

The owner of Agriculture stressed that "Bullas wines have extended their market," noting the work of winemakers and grape growers in developing quality wines "that are rated and commended."

Gala awards

The VIII shows Bullas hosts activities to be held over two days, among which are several tastings of different wines DO Bullas, visiting places of interest in wine and VIII Wine Quality Contest Bullas, included in the calendar published by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment official wine competitions and officially recognized to be held in 2015 in the country.

Among the bases that regulate this contest, has established three awards (gold, silver and bronze) for each of the categories of white, rosé, young red wines without wood, wood young red wines and red wines aged in wood.

The choice of the best wines will be conducted through a blind tasting with the participation tasters wine experts and representatives of different sectors related to wine.

The tasting will take place under the direction of Adrian Martinez, director of the Instituto Murciano Agri-Food Research and Development.

The gala awards ceremony at which the awards are awarded to the winning wines will be held in Caravaca de la Cruz.
