The general director of Industrial and Agricultural Associations, Gines Vivancos, today presented the Eighth Congress of Agriculture and Food Ecology, to be held in Bullas from 16 to 20 September under the title "Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development."

Vivancos was accompanied by Professor of the University of Murcia, José María Egea, technically responsible for climate change policy of the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Planning, Eva Morote, and the director of the Foundation Cajamurcia, Jose Moreno.

The responsibility of Industry said in his speech "the gradual increase" that has seen organic farming in the Region of Murcia in the last ten years, which has grown from 100 hectares in 1997 to 25,000 hectares of production under such agricultural practice in 2007.

He also said that organic farming is one of the best examples of sustainable development "because, he said," favors the maintenance of biodiversity, helping to mitigate the erosion process and promotes landscape diversity. "

He also highlighted that organic production encourages "the maintenance of soil fertility by increasing organic matter content", which also contributes "to a greater retention of water and therefore their savings," he said.

He also emphasized that this type of agricultural practice contributes to the fight against climate change as "the capacity to fix atmospheric CO2 is high," and uses agricultural techniques of "low environmental impact," said Vivanco.
